What Is 3D Printing?
3D printing represents a new trend in technology which is rapidly becoming more and more popular all across the world because of its various benefits. After the concept first appeared a few years ago, it has successfully become known all around the world as more and more companies are taking in 3D printing as a form of producing their products.
This trend represents the process which can be used to make a solid object of just about any shape, but also of a wide array of sizes from which manufacturers can choose. For those who may not know how it works, after the printer reads the design from a file, 3D printing is achieved by adding layers of material in different shapes in order to create different objects. Not all 3D printers are the same, as some may work by lamination, photo polymerization, extrusion deposition and even binding granular materials through the additive techniques. The process can take anywhere between an hour to a few days or even weeks depending on the task it has and how complicate the object it is supposed to print out is.
The process has been present for many years, but with today’s technology, people can print out their own objects at home from materials such as concrete, plastic, glass or even metals. In the past, 3D printing was used in order to create certain pieces which would later be used in the creation of a usable object, or for different kinds of prototypes. This has changed and now 3D printing has the potential to revolutionize the world of manufacturing, but also of shopping for different objects which we may be in need of. Not only can 3D printing provide us with the things we need, but it can also be used in aspects such as bio-printing medical devices or even implant organs in the medical field.
Today, 3D printers are not yet found in everyone’s house and they are still quite expensive to purchase, at least when compared to regular printers. This is mainly due to the fact that the technology ca still be considered quite new and there aren’t a high number of people who are accustomed to it. However, even though not many individuals have a 3D printer in their house, there are quite a large number of companies who have changed their building procedure and switched to 3D printing because of its high benefits over the regular forms of creating materials that they have used until now.
It is also quite interesting to see that the products which are printed using the 3D printing method are also usually cheaper comparing to their other alternatives, as companies are trying to popularize the concept behind this revolutionary new way of printing objects for the sake of producing them in mass or just for fun at a person’s home. As 3D printers are not extremely huge, some can be kept in the house, so a user can easily supply it with material, purchase a 3D printing file from the internet and print out his object without any additional trouble. Additionally, specific software can also allow users to create printing procedures which will then be used by the printer to create certain objects.
In conclusion, 3D printing is the first step towards a better world where people can manufacture their own objects according to their needs, but also where everyone gets the chance of having the objects they desire, mainly due to the fact that they are easy to use, but also because the materials and the process of creation using 3D printers is far cheaper than the traditional methods that we are all used to.
